Well...That Was "Wench"

I hate to be a quitter and I hate even more to give up but, sometimes a book just calls for it. Unfortunately, Wench was the book I just had to put down. At the end of the day at my job I read for an hour to help me with Reader's Advisory, this book made me dread that hour. Now I respect authors and what they do but, this book was not for me.

This is just my opinion so please do not allow what I think deter you from reading it, who knows, it may be your favorite book. Each person has their favorite writing style, and for me this was not it. The writing was bland and seemed all over the place.

The major let down for me was that it had a lot of great boxes checked for me, fantasy and adventure..check, magic quill...check, badass female character (or at least the synopsis lead me to believe) check. However, that last one was not checked. I kept waiting for Tanya to step up and kick some butt. I mean ever since she was a young girl she was working in a tavern. She had to manhandle big ole guys out of the tavern when they got too much, and now she suddenly can't defend herself. It just messes with you a bit.

I only made it to Chapter 8 and who knows maybe it really picks up after that. Life is just to short to waste on a book that is not keeping you turning pages.
